What Makes a Valuable Event Experience
Following last year’s Catering Platform, one thing came through clearly in feedback from both buyers and suppliers. Not all events deliver value in the same way.
For many attendees, the difference comes down to how time is spent. Traditional trade shows and networking events can often feel overwhelming, with too many conversations happening at once and very little structure behind them.
What stood out from Catering Platform was how focused and productive those conversations were.
A More Structured Approach
A consistent theme in feedback was the value of pre-arranged, one-to-one meetings.
Rather than trying to find the right people on the day, attendees came in knowing who they were meeting and why. This allowed conversations to start at a more meaningful level, with both sides already aligned on what they were looking for.
The 20-minute meeting format was highlighted repeatedly as a key factor, giving enough time to have a proper discussion without losing pace across the day.
Attendee Feedback: Time Well Spent
Across the board, attendees described the event as efficient, well organised, and commercially valuable.
Suppliers spoke about being able to get directly in front of decision-makers and generate new opportunities quickly. Buyers highlighted the ability to meet relevant suppliers, discover new products, and move conversations forward in a short space of time.
As one attendee shared:
“Being able to pick and target the people you want to see means you get the most out of the structured meeting time.”
Another noted:
“More direct and effective for engaging buyers than a tradeshow.”
And importantly, many of these conversations didn’t stop at the event. Follow-ups, site visits, and ongoing discussions were already underway shortly afterwards.
Beyond the Meetings
While the structured meetings are at the core, the wider event experience also plays an important role.
Informal networking, shared experiences, and time away from day-to-day responsibilities all contribute to stronger relationships and more open conversations.
It’s this combination of structure and flexibility that continues to come through as a key reason attendees return.
What’s Next for Platform
As we approach this year’s Catering Platform, these are the elements we continue to refine.
Ensuring that time is used effectively, conversations are relevant, and the overall experience delivers real value for everyone involved.
